An Idea.. Play By Post/Roll20 Combo

Post by dymondy2k »

Guys.. I've been kicking around an idea to start a new campaign based on the Freeport series, converted to BFRPG. So I was giving some thought to either running a Roll20 game or Play by Post so I thought about the positive and negatives of both.

Play by Post:
Pros: Easier to schedule since there is no set schedule. People can post when they want.
Cons. One player not posting can hold up the thread. Combats usually take a very long time to resolve.

Roll20 (online games)
Pros: Everyone together and the campaign moves quickly. Combat is much faster and resolves almost as fast as being at the table (online playing does have some distractions)
Cons: Scheduling. Getting everyone together at the same time to play can be tough to do on a regular basis..

So I thought.. Why not combine both? Use the Play by Post Elements for everything non combat. Then when combat is going to occur, get the group together on Roll20. Those sessions should be fast and take minimal time...

Just me thinking out loud.. what do you guys think?
