dragonsfoot
I just hopped over to dragonsfoot for the first time in a very long time and the place feels different. No one in the chat rooms, the first page of the General forum contains posts all the way back to 7 days ago. I remember the first page being all one day. has there been new wars flaring up over there or something?
Re: dragonsfoot
I'm there about every day, though I seldom post anymore. It does seem to be a bit slow over there right now, I have not seen any big blow ups or anything. (There is always one or two people bickering about something but that's just the nature of the net)
Re: dragonsfoot
I guess because the sheer numbers it does seem to go through a personality change every couple of years. Then it calms down and settles into a slightly different forum.
I enjoy BFRPG dungeons. And played Will Thornton in Dirigible of Doom!

Re: dragonsfoot
Just wait until this new 5th edition comes out. Surely it will not measure up to many people's expectations, change things that should have been left alone, not play or be as 'universal' as promised, have crappy medieval-punk artwork, and otherwise just piss off a bunch of people.... then you will see loads of folks there to lambast it, talk about the good ole days, ask again where Roger Moore and Dave Trampier went, and otherwise revel in their grognardisms.
Of course I write this rather tongue in cheek and exaggerated.... because I rather like seeing new ideas that can be applied to my old-school ways. I love dragonsfoot for what they are, but sometimes dislike the whole "if it comes after 2e, then it sucks" mentality that is pervasive there. Honestly I would be on LL if I did not like to see some innovation (for it is nearly a true copy of the source material). I like some stuff like ascending AC, Race/Class separation without level limits, and so on.

Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Re: dragonsfoot
Heh, I stopped going to dragonsfoot shortly after 5E was announced because I said I was cautiously optimistic about it and was insulted in differing levels of coherence for trusting WotC, some of them in PMs and at least one in email. Even after I pointed out, good or bad, I would not be giving up BFRPG over it.
Characters:
Himamura Jin (Night Wizard; Level 6 Great One/Level 1 Caster)
Benjamin d'Aide (BFRPG; level 5 cleric of the virtue of Sacrifice) - recurring hireling turned pseudo-DMPC

Re: dragonsfoot
Thanks for the input. I thought about it some last night and think that it probably just the effect of social media on almost all chat communities.
Re: dragonsfoot
This is why I find BFRPG so much more appealing than LL, OSRIC, S&W, etc. While the tone and feel of the game is pretty much as "old school" as you can get, BFRPG was not afraid to use some of those innovations that have came along in the last couple of decades.SmootRK wrote:Of course I write this rather tongue in cheek and exaggerated.... because I rather like seeing new ideas that can be applied to my old-school ways. Yea, it got a bit out of hand for a little while, thankfully things did calm down. Some people just get so caught up in what system they like that anything that isn't their system is "the devil". I will at least look at a system before I decide to dislike it, and anyone who happens to like it is free to enjoy it all they want, it doesn't bother me.Steveman wrote:Heh, I stopped going to dragonsfoot shortly after 5E was announced because I said I was cautiously optimistic about it and was insulted in differing levels of coherence for trusting WotC, some of them in PMs and at least one in email. Personally as long as I'm rolling a d20 I'm happy. Yet I'm not statisfied by any edition so far that I've played. I love basic fantasy from what I've played. But I've been doin the play test and am very very happy.

Hey Xav you ever played 2nd Edition? That's personally my favorite edition of D&D. Though I started with 3.5.
