New race idea

Post Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:13 am

Just saw this posted over on Google+ and figured someone might be interested in it here. Should be really easy to port over as LL is very similar.

It would a very simple conversion since almost all the work is there. You just need to convert the AC from 7 to what is listed in the manual. BFRPG doesn't use min stats other then 3 and the max is 18 so you could just drop that part. The dex and Int modifiers look ok. I would recommend the save bonus to be dropped to +2 unless you seriously don't want poison to affect them in almost any fashion.

As for the individual race text the only change I would do is the lizardman's bite damage. That I would scale it back to 1d6+1. That puts it more in line with the monster listed in the core rules monster section.

From the rules
Armor Class: 15 (12)
Hit Dice: 2
No. of Attacks: 1 weapon
Damage: 1d6+1 or by weapon +1

All the other stuff looked ok to me but I'm not a developer just a gm.

Most of the work is already done. The only thing is that unless someone does original information and such it probably won't make it into a supplement. If you want those races to be in your game, no one is going to stop you so go for it.

The 3 pony races I made were all adapted from Labyrinth Lord stats originally, so its not to hard to make transitions between the game systems. I have even pondered making racial classes for BFRPG just because the it would be so simple.

Trodglodyte and Lizard Men have been done for BFRPG in the Old Monsters as New Races Supplement: http://basicfantasy.org/download.cgi/BF ... ent-r2.pdf

The entries there follow the Monster Entries pretty closely, only having a pseudo-level or negative level to acquire to account for the extra HD (both being 2HD monsters).
A slightly better formatted version (with some minor typos and errata included) can be found here:

I did a lot of work with this supplement, and I think it works well to incorporate various humanoids into one's game either as PCs or as NPC tough leader types of those various races. Other races did not get included only because the combinations of abilities and/or overall power level was difficult to reconcile as character options. For instance, Trolls have crazy regeneration ability that goes beyond what any other race gets. Also, going beyond a few HD gets really wonky trying to equate to those simplistic 'negative levels'. That's why you don't see Giants done up either.

But, overall it works pretty well.

BFRPG needs a generic Snake People monster/race, and Froggy People would be ideal to include as well. Those would be very welcome in the Field Guide.
