Lich-Slayer
I've been brainstorming a little today, and I think I've come up with something. I want to create something like the helmet of the Lich King in World of Warcraft. Only, I want it to be different. The "phylactery" in the helmet contains the soul of a divine champion, who was known as a slayer of Liches. He was preserved specifically by his God for use in assistance in defeating a high powered Lich. I don't know how I'm going to bring this into a game either, as I've just been thinking about it today. I haven't even tried to stat the thing out because, frankly, I don't know where I would begin. Probably coming up with the original character, who would probably be some kind of Paladin. Then there would be the creation of the phylactery out of a helmet or weapon (probably one of his own).
Another aspect is that his God did not make him a sort of Death Knight, in that he only gave him the ability to merge in a kind of symbiotic relationship with the wielder, but that the relationship would be for the life of the wielder. It wouldn't matter if the weapon/helmet was stolen. It could only be used on the death of the linked person. This would create a kind of fusion character.
As a spell, it would be some sort of binding spell that bound the soul to the armor/weapon. I've also toyed with the idea of binding the soul to an iron golem, but that might be taking it a bit too far. Any additional ideas, or things I should take into consideration?
