Re: NPC's, Adventures, and Levels
His henchman needs to be big. A troll, ogre, or even an orc. And he should be at a higher level than normal. He should be a force to be reckoned with to be dealt with before the Necromancer.
Re: NPC's, Adventures, and Levels
If the party is all prepped out for fighting undead, then I would recommend some sort of Flesh Golem (even if you have to make a "lesser" variant), a sort of Frankenstein's Monster to deal with. I also love having an IGOR around, Half-Orc Thief (or Assassin) makes a great side-kick.
Another great critter to have around is "Shadows" which in BFRPG are actually not undead... nice.

Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

I was thinking about making an Igor. Arming him with a spade and everything. It makes me laugh to imagine some hunchbacked dude leap upon an armed and armored fighter with nothing more than grit, determination, and shovel to fight with.
Spade = greatest weapon ever.

I'd make the spade a 1d6 weapon, but that's just me.

I like the way you think...
Re: NPC's, Adventures, and Levels
I am in total agreement with what Solo said.. Remember that OSR doesn't stand for Old School Revival.. it really means.. 'Oh Sh*t Run!!' I think we have gotten used to adventures matching character levels and that each Boss should be killable by the party.. Two of my characters found out the hard way that isn't always the case after a white dragon made popsicles out of them. Then they got inventive...
I did chuckle at your very 'ordinary' bad guys stats.. maybe that's why he turned out bad..Tired of being picked last in the Magic School kickball games.

It made me laugh, which is honestly a hard thing to do anymore. He just couldn't catch a break in life. He turned out good in the end though.

either works. Then you can have "Ugly" as his henchman.

Maybe he needs an assistant? That way they can be the Good the Bad and the Ugly?
