OK a little less precise on where the name comes from, Beaked Bear, the way I look at it, the first thing someone is going to notice in a dark cave when this thing attacks is that it's a great flippin' bear with a HUGE hooked beak...

Interestingly the description of the Owlbear has never mentioned it being completely feathered, but every picture I've seen except the original one in 1e MM has shown it heavily feathered

I propose Strigiurstes comes from the family name of owls Strigidea + ursetes as a form of urses (bear)

I like the logic, but know my players will shorten it to Strigurs

I stand behind "Owlbeast" as the cooler name, but failing that.... I dunno, Owlbear out of sheer laziness I guess.

My heart is sad, knowing that I won't see the mighty Featherbear in the rulebook... unless I change it manually :)
