+2 is a big deal! adding even reduced backstabbing to non-thieves is really removing the thief's main combat advantage

For sneaking from behind, I have non-thieves make an ability roll (page 153 of core book). At level 1, it’s 17 and up to succeed. That’s at 20% chance. Still below than the thief’s move silently skill of 25% at level 1. And if I’m not mistaken, the ability rolls chance for success stays lower than the thief skills chance for success even as the level increases.
And also they only get +2 bonus to attack but no bonuses to damage.
