We still have a couple of sections to review for BF3. Once we're done, we are probably going to start reading through JN1.
Main tracker for SRD removal is here.

Gah. No. No way.
The only thing they are giving away is mechanics we don't even use.

Idk, it seems that if you were to keep BFRPG under the OGL, you could keep all of the game terms and monster/spell names. Obviously it's up to you, and I am by no means an expert. Just food for thoughtSolomoriah wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:17 pm Gah. No. No way.

Regarding 1.0 they are allowing old stuff to remain but not allowing new stuff to be created.
And BFRPG is always bringing new stuff to the table.
Other than that, they are giving the skeletal D&D rules, BFRPG does not use them.
If we wanted to keep the SRD stuff, we would have to oblige to 1.2 and everything that it carries.
Funny that they resort to CC for their base vanilla rules.

It's funny, because they can't really give away the game mechanics because those can't be proprietary in the first place. It's like me saying I'm going to be so nice I'm going to let you breathe air for free.
As for the rest of it... I notice that in the last two public statements they've put front and center that they're all about protecting gamers from hateful or discriminatory content. When the draft OGL 1.1 was originally leaked they were more honest about the business rationale... not wanting to subsidize the competition. They're doing all this because they're champions of inclusivity? That seems unlikely.

They can't own mechanical rules, but the language, tables, and combination of elements inside the rules could be used by them as a "you are copying our work".
The whole monetary aspect blew on their faces, now they have to go with a "we are not the bad guys" angle, but is not hard to be suspicious of their true intentions.
