Long Weekend = Game On

Well, it was a long weekend (for President's Day). On Saturday, I put together a little game of one of my favorite systems, Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game. All players were children, oldest of which was 11 years old.
One had never played a game that did not require electronics of some kind!!! This kid whined about "I don't want to play", then when all the rest assembled around the table, the whining worsened to "I'mmm Borrrreedd." I had to be cool because this was the child of one of our house-guests for the weekend, but I said, "We would love to have you play, but I am not going to allow you to disrupt us because you are not the center of attention over there."
So we get started. Since all the rest had played before, we were quick to get started. I use simple scenarios with kids, so they basically were walking to their camp in the forest, when out pops a Halfling (or Hobbit as we call them), who promptly says his friends need help... but the Halfling dies right away from his wounds. The kids said, "lets go" and the game was on.
They made for a rocky outcropping over in the direction the Halfling seemed to come from. As they approached, they were ambushed by a few Trodlodytes, so we had combat going already....
... it was about then that we noticed MR. PLAYSTATION hovering over us. Long story short, new gamer was just created. He played excitedly through the evening using a NPC we had around (Halfling Thief). He was amazed at playing a game where all we had was a few pieces of paper, writing instruments and dice.
Anyhow, he went home to Georgia, but I hope he treasures that first look at role-playing.
I shared this also at my new site for Free PnP Role-Playing Games: https://www.sites.google.com/site/rpgfreelist/home
