detecting traps, once per party or once per character?

In my game my players control 2 characters each (2 players, 4 characters) for a dungeon crawl.

Sometimes they encounter's npc's were are favorable and enjoin the party. I usually just double current pc's as ncp's to keep things simple.

So... if there is a trap on a door or in a room. Do I roll one per pc/npc (in the above example that would be 8 rolls).

Seems kind of odd especially considering to detect traps is usually a 1 or 2 on a d6 (8 rolls almost always means a success).

Or is it the character in the party who has the best chance (i.e a thief).

What about "taking 10"? Is that even a thing in this game? I know random encounter's happen every 3 turns (a 1 on a 1d6). So there is the chance that taking 10 could result in an encounter. I didn't see any rules for that.

Right now I'm usually doing 4 rolls (1 for non - thiefs, one for thiefs, repeat for npc's). But it seems the correct thing to do would be to roll per person.

There is no "taking 10" rule on BFRPG

As for how many rolls, remember that searching for traps takes 1 turn per 10' square area, if every party member wants to check just to be sure then up to 8 turns will be spent on the task.
Now, depending on the door size 2 or more members may search at the same time, this could help reducing time specially if they do not share the same area of search.
