This is awesome. I wanted to do something like that myself, but I'm seriously inexperienced. It's good to see how it's supposed to be done. I think I'll use your adventure, but I might change some stuff here and there. Thank you!

ps one more question: Why do you recommend starting characters at Level 2, instead of the Level 1 characters used in the original?

Thanks!

Mostly as a means to avoid TPKs, that or starting the characters out at maximum hit points at first level.

dylan20 wrote: Sun Feb 14, 2021 12:56 am Thanks for posting this! I recently got the D&D starter set, thinking I might use it to get back into D&D with my son and niece (14 and 9 years old, respectively). It has this adventure, which looks well thought-out.

But after getting the set, I thought it might actually be better to try starting them off using Basic Fantasy RPG, as it can be simplified more easily. (Also cheaper!) So I'm really happy to see you adapted the adventure to this system.

Do you think this modified adventure would be a good "starter" adventure?
Some of the subject material might be a tad strong for the 9 year old, like the Innkeeper's daughter being stolen and the Inkeeper getting offed, but its nothing you can't fix with a brighter tone (like having them save the two instead of taking the grimdark route).

Excellent point, yes. I'm also looking at adapting the "Delian Tomb" as a starter adventure, and one of the changes I would make is changing the kidnapped blacksmith's daughter (what is it about kidnapping daughters??) into, IDK, a stolen talisman or something a little less scary for a 9 year old girl.
