Yes, you can have character sheets in Maptool. You can define properties for tokens to inherit. For example, in my BF game, I've defined 'Level', 'Class', 'HitPoints' and many more properties. You can also define which properties are visible.

When you hover your mouse over a token, you can view the visible properties of that token. A little pop-up automatically appears and displays every visible property in whatever order you've arranged.

You can also do more sophisticated stuff, like create an HTML form that will open as a small window, displaying character info. I do that just for the PCs' equipment. For a game like DC Heroes, I do the same for their powers & skills.
