Are there expanded Fighter rules, anywhere?

Post Mon Aug 24, 2020 5:06 pm

I've done a cursory search, and I'm not finding anything that could make a Fighter more interesting.

And to be fair, the Basic Fantasy Fighter isn't really all that good. I mean, even the Thief gets a situational damage booster.

There are a variety of rules, from the combat option supplement to different ideas on the workshop

The thief's odds of putting himself into that situation are tiny, especially if the party is small. I'll admit 1 halfling thief works really well if paired with 13 dwarven fighters. I prefer to just make sure the fighters have enough magical weapons and armors because if I get them extra attacks than every NPCs also get those.

Look towards the end of the download section for alternate classes and combat options.

I've always been happy with Combat Options... it's why I wrote it.

And to be fair, if you think the thief stands up to the fighter, you are not giving armor class enough credit.

This is one of the beautiful things of BFRPG / osr :- The Fighter night only have the ability to swing a sword (very well) which seems dull or boring, but to me this only encourages three dimensional characters and builds concepts outside of stats and even means players don’t want to fight all the time. Again all those are positives.

And yes the Combat Options supplement is great. Although I think at-least Weapon Specialisation should belong to Fighters in core.

... everybody has something they think I should have put in the Core Rules. :D I had a coverage target, and with very few exceptions I have only what that original work had.

The thing with that, for me, is that every soldier is a weapon specialist.
They all use the same weapon and they are paid to train.
As most of the NPCs the party will be fighting will be soldiers or ex-soldiers, adding specialization would just make things harder for them. And that's before they find exotic magical weapons.

It's totally fine as an option.
