I am not really sure if this is the right place to ask this, so forgive me if I am in the wrong place.
I am teaching my daughter how to play RPGs, and I have chosen Basic Fantasy to get us going. I also was lucky enough to snag a cheap copy of the old 1st Edition AD&D Forgotten Realms campaign box set (the gray box). I would like to put the two together and see where that takes us.
What pointers can you guys give me on converting any of this content, or any AD&D 1e/2e modules, for use with Basic Fantasy? I have seen the conversion guide for D20 monsters, but unless I missed it, I haven't seen one for converting stuff out of say, the 2.5e Monstrous Manual, for instance.
Thanks!

Re: FR Gray Box Conversion?
My general rule of thumb when converting monsters from 2e or 1e.
Remove the THACO and use the Paragraph "Monster Attack Bonus"on page 43 applied to the Attack Bonus table on pg 47 in the core rules.
Convert the AC from descending to acceding scale. To do this you take the AC and subtract it 20. This should give you something close to their original ac in accending format.
Hit Points/ hit dice : I don't remember if the hd is d6 or d8 in the gray box. If it is a d6 then just change it a d8. If they have hp already listed then you could leave the numbers listed or add 1 or 2 points per hd the creature has. This will give you a close enough average to get the feel for.
Damage: you can adjust if you wish but it mostly falls close to the core rules already.
Everything else is just mostly fluff and you could wing it as needed.

Re: FR Gray Box Conversion?
Everything should match up pretty well, other than inverting the AC. For monsters of 9 or fewer hit dice, a monster's attack bonus is the same as its hit dice; for higher hit dice, you'll need the table to look it up.
The problem children will be NPCs. You can use the supplements to fill in the missing classes and races, but the spell lists are different, with some of them coming at different levels.
Still, shouldn't be too hard to do.
