How do you game

I only ever played in person.
I'm one of those rare individuals that find computer gaming boring, so I dread the idea of RPG-ing via post/Skype/whatsit.
Currently I'm DMing a semi-regular game with 3 players.

I would love to have a live game but where I live there are no gamers nearby and my time is used up by family life and work. I really don't have enough time or money to spare to drive an hour one way to play with a group.

As a Player, I play in a two weeks on/one week of game online in a chatroom. No voice chat. (a Japanese modern fantasy game that reeks of "modern" game design, but the group are my friends. So I deal with it.)
As a GM, I run a once a week game online using twiddla and voice chat via Google Hangouts. (BFRPG with a lot of the expanded class and race options, as well as thief and fighter rules, and a minor magics 0-level spells replacement I am testing)
As a GM, I also run the occasional pickup game at the FLGS. (BFRPG. Via the starter kit pdf usually.)

Roll dice by typing #d# in the chat window. If anything else is on the line it will not roll it, also it doesn't do +/-#. You have to take care that yourself.

Yeah the nice thing about this thread is seeing all these inventive ways of playing online I didn't know of.

Yeah it is nice to see the different ways that people game online with. We all know about the standard play by post games that are hosted here and the many other places. We all generally know about Traipse/Openrpg, Maptool, other virtual table top programs, and instant messenger games but what is new to me is the twiddla.

It is has a basic dice roller but you could just make a dice rolling thread in your favorite forum that has a dice roller and use it as you need to. I know mayhem gaming has a dice roller that supports a slightly more complicated dicer (it handles d20 rolls with no problems) but there are other sites that have rollers that support even more complicated rolls. Invisible castle comes to mind for that. Twiddla would allow live gaming without additional software installation. coool.

The reason why I really like Twiddla is that with Google Hangouts, all I need running is my internet browser. 8D

Its really a free web-based light version of Maptools. It has a chat function, a dice roller that can include bonuses, a map you can use with tokens that includes a fog-of-war feature and tons of other stuff.

Nik is the guy who runs it and he is very friendly and helpful. He created a ton of Microlite20 scripts and functions for us when I came across his site and expressed an interest in using it for our online game. Now the ruleset on his site includes a character builder/Character sheet, an online store to equip your character and other stuff as well.

I have managed to reboot the tabletop BFRPG game I started last winter.

Long story short, six months passed between sessions as the two players I had, essentially decided not to play. So I started playing in another game (AD&D 2nd edition), figuring that was that. I considered finding new players, but was loathe to abandon the gaming investment that had already been made (the party was in the middle of some interesting stuff and storylines were emerging). Finally the meeker player of the two decided she wanted to play after all and got another new guy from her work interested. (The other former player decided he would rather play NHL 2011). And we had a blast. Word got around and we have gained 3 new players from our social circles. And now I have another player who is very interested, but he is on, the, er, "waiting list." I have never had a waiting list before.

So I play tabletop, up to 5 people, every two weeks, maybe 4 hours a session. I think we will be good until April with this lineup. Ages range from early 20's to 44 (me). Only 2 of us have old school experience, while the other three have played other tabletop genres or CRPGs or MMORPGs.
