How young did you start your kids?

My darling daughter just turned 6 and has the most amazing imagination. I was considering something like Mice and Mystics and then thought I could try BFRPG. Any if you have a young child that you've started on this gaming platform? If so how young and were there any obstacles that you had to overcome?

6 may be a little young (sorry). My kids could play somewhere around 8-10. I know trying too young was more of an exercise in frustration. Also, I'd advocate for SHORT sessions. Have pregens ready and play for an hour is they can focus that long.

YMMV

Or do what I did... start kids with Marvel Super Heroes. No killing, easy-to-understand plots, over-the-top villains. Works great!

6 years old was fine. At that age, the hardest part is attention span and focus, or possibly having to be all the rules, and I mean ALL the RULES because reading and comprehension is minimal for most kids that age. I had to explain and manage everything heavily.

I did change initiative for younger folks. Kids that age understand taking turns well. Easiest when everyone gets their turn than trying to manage simultaneous actions. Rolled d20 for it instead of d6, then ties went to higher Dexterity. Effectively stopped simultaneous events. On a rare occasion we did re-roll for ties (just the two tied characters/monsters) to figure out who goes when.
