BF App Art

Post by ThorinSchmidt »

Hey everyone, my students and I have been working on a Basic Fantasy Character app for the Android. (There's a thread in the Workshop)

We would like to make an equipment page where the player can easily equip or unequip items.
Most likely in a scrollable list of some kind where clicking an entry would toggle it.

To help with that it would be neat to have some graphical icons to designate the general type of an entry. would someone be able to make a few? They'd need to be about 50 by 50 pixels. They would be general icons, so we'd need need probably 5 total: Armor, Shield, Weapon, Magic, and Miscellaneous.

I'm not an artist so I don't know how hard this actually is. However, I'm not looking for something complex. icons in mobile apps are usually monochrome, and stylistic; like restroom signs and such.

anyhow it would be much appreciated, and all artwork would be under usual BF copyrights, and also credited directly in the app.

A couple of things to add here:

Artists who contribute to the Basic Fantasy Project are giving us (specifically, me) a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the artwork in Basic Fantasy publications. So the "usual BF copyrights" in this case would refer to that, but artists contributing to this app would be granting such a license to me with the understanding that I may sub-license the art to Thorin's school group. I don't generally sub-license artwork, and that's not usually part of the arrangement. Or if the artist so chooses, he or she may license the art directly to Thorin's group, but in that case I need to be told that the art is not available for use in other publications.

Art submitted for Thorin's school group probably needs to be nearly the same scan quality (i.e. grayscale at 300 dpi, probably at least 975 pixels wide) as Retina displays on Apple devices can have nearly that much resolution available. If you plan to license it to me, such that the entire project can use the art, just do it that way; Thorin's kids can resize the art down if they need to.

EDIT: Re-read the original post, and Thorin's not wanting as large a pics as I expected, so disregard that bit.
