Page 155: Sword +1, +3 vs. dragons
"Enchanting a weapon takes one week plus two days per point of bonus; thus, the sword described would require twelve days to enchant."

Assuming a 7 day week, shouldn't that be 15 days?

Also

"Reduce the chance of success by 10% times the bonus; so, a sword +1 would reduce the base chance 10%, while the sword +1, +3 vs. dragons described above would reduce the base chance 25%"

Shouldn't that be 40%?

For weapons with two bonuses, divide the larger bonus in half (don't round) and add the smaller bonus
This applies not only for g.p. costs

The +1/+3 weapon has a value of 1 + 3/2 = 2.5

7 days + 2 x 2.5 = 7+5 = 12 days

2.5 (sword value) x -10% = -25% modifier

By my interpretation and math, wouldn't it 13 days? (3 points bonus vs. Dragons, so 3x2=6, plus a week(7) = 13)

For the second one, my interpretation is either 10% or 30% vs. Dragons.

My head hurts. :D

A weapon with two bonuses halves the bigger one and adds the lesser one
A +1/+3 sword halves the +3 (its largest bonus) to 1.5, then adds the lesser bonus, +1, to a +2.5 final value

One week + 2 days per +1 means 1w + 4 days for the +2 and +1 day for the +0.5

The same value, 2.5 times 10, gives the 25% value

In each and every case the rule of adding half the bigger bonus to the lesser one applies

Thank you for the advice, it's clearer now.

I would like BFRP to closer simulate the old school experience. To that end, is there a conversion I can do to change all ascending AC to descending?

For that matter and for future reference, how do you convert descending AC (BD&D and AD&D) to ascending?

To get the descending AC, I believe it is just 20 minus ascending AC. So an AC of 17 in BFRPG is an AC of 3 in descending. However, this also means you'll need to use a "to hit" chart. That won't be a problem if you are just using BFRPG adventures and monsters where you only have to flip the AC. But if you are running from the BFRPG book (rather than say B/X or something), you'll need to rig up a chart.

From my own experience, most players, even old schoolers, don't mind ascending AC and find it a little easier to work with in play. We switched to ascending AC about a decade ago and no one has ever asked to go back.

But of course, the choice is yours.

Try as I might I cannot get the BFRPG 8"x10.5" Notebook Paper Character Sheet to open (it's the real old school one with lined paper). I last used Open Office but it is just a blank (non-lined) document. Excel doesn't work either.

It's the second character sheet down.

www.basicfantasy.org/downloads.html#notebooksheet

Any idea what I should be using?

I just checked and it opened ok for me in LibreOffice. I HIGHLY recommend using that over OpenOffice; you can download it here. Try that out and see if it works for you.
