just found out I'll be getting some swords and wizardry books this holiday season and I was wondering if it was possible to use adventure modules from that game with the bfrpg rules set ?

The short answer is "absolutely".

All so easily.

As I understand it, S&W has only one saving throw (which actually makes your job easier as a DM for NPC's). Not sure how every number progression matches, but it really won't matter much. S&W allows for either type of Armor Class, so you should be good to go out of the box.

Enjoy and let us know how it goes.

I'd say everything up to and including 2E and all the different retroclones are fairly interchangeable. Sometimes the numbers are slightly different but for the most part you can handwave it and usually be within 5-10% of BFRPG.

Later editions started to change the math more, those would require a lot more tweaking.

S&W's ascending AC is one off of BFRPGs. For correctness, deduct the regular descending AC from S&W from 20 to get the correct BFRPG AC (and the same works to go the other way).

And that 5% difference in AC can make a big difference at lower levels for survivability.

The only thing that ever trips me up regarding AC conversion is that different rulesets have different attack bonuses at level 1. Though I generally prefer ascending AC, I understand how the ThAC0 system just had that "baked into" the tables.

Fighters in S&W have the same level 1 attack odds as fighters in BFRPG. I checked this out a long time back, actually.
