The Redbluff Campaign

Post Wed Aug 17, 2011 1:38 am

So, I found my way back here after a long time spent distracted by this terrible thing called life. And saw that the Redbluff campaign and felt compelled to point out that the town I grew up in - and spent most of my life so far - is named Red Bluff. While I no longer live there, it is still pretty close and my parents do live there.

Here's some links about the place. 8D

I had a girlfriend that lived right outside of Red Bluff, her dad was a sheriff for a long time.

Well, it is in California ...

Me, I just got killed there once.

Steveman, that's an interesting coincidence. How'd you like living there? From Google Maps it looks like its in a valley and not too terribly far from the Pacific. Nice place?

Its a really nice place, but lacks a real gaming community of any sort. A gamestore has never survived for more than 2 years there. The best it had was a small group of magic players at the satellite campus from the junior college up north. If I had to complain about anything is the rampant drug abuse and the Latino gangs. Some parts of town are really bad, but others are very, very safe and clean and nice.

That's a shame. It's good to hear there are still safe parts of town. If I ever can retire (an increasingly receding possibility), I like to imagine retiring to a small town somewhere, but the drug gangs and metal thieves seem to have taken over too much of rural America.

Red Bluff, at least for the major part of the town, feels like a retirement community. Especially in the areas around "old down town" between the post office and the high-school. Across the bridge headed east is really nice too, once you get past all the restaurants. The backstreets there are less than stellar, but after that but before the street becomes I-99S is really nice. But don't goo too far south on the I-99. Proberta is a sty.

Though, if you are inclined to come to California to retire in a small rural community, I'd recommend Cottonwood (A bit north) or Corning (a bit south). Both are smaller, much safer and closer to bigger cities that have actual brick and mortar gamestores (Redding and Chico respectively).
