Random encounters are a great stall when you aren't ready for the player's change of plans. Just don't use them like punishment.

Thinking back on all my games that I ran. Most fell apart after one or two sessions. It was just hard to get a group back together after that. I was told I was pretty good, but people do lie. Well I am trying to get through BF1 and see what all I need to get set up or printed off. I do have a question for everyone. I am going to do this as a play by post. What kind of time frame should I look at between posts?

I am interested in doing something with skyships / space fantasy (e.g., Spelljammer) as well. Luigi Castellani was working on something like this for BF called 'Voidspanners' and the material there is pretty cool, but not finished. The project seems to have bogged down a year or so ago and I haven't heard anything about it since. Doing my own version, drawing on Voidspanners, is on my to-do list, but I won't get to it anytime soon (probably not this year w/o a good reason).
It's kind of a big project, so it would be cool to have a group work on it with. Let me know when you get there, unless you just want to take it on solo. We all have our own take on these things, so if you have a cool idea you want to develop on your own, that's perfectly understandable.

Sir Bedivere I would love to colabrate on this. I know I can not do this alone. I donwloaded the "A Dungeoneer's Guide to Aeronautics" from Dragonfoot and have been looking thourgh it. I don't want to step on any toes. I just enjpy the old skyship. Where can I look at Voidspanners? I use to love the oridginal. It might be later this year before I can get to my skyships project. I will keep you in mind.

He had it posted at Dragonsfoot. I can't remember the name of the thread, but it was at least a year old and probably either in the Simulacrum or Workshop thread. I've downloaded "A Dungeoneer's Guide to Aeronautics" but haven't had a chance to go through it yet.
Let me know when you get around to working on it. I don't know how much time I'll have, but I'm definitely interested.

Here's a
Spelljammer website w/ a stripped-down set of rules and a bunch of other stuff:
http://www.spelljammer.org/rules/#h_RulesforADampD2e
Here's Artikid's (Luigi's)
Voidspanner thread at DF:
http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewt ... idspanners
Here's Artikid's website, w/ links to his games & supplements:
http://artikid.altervista.org/?id=Games
Here's a recent DF post on the topic as well, but it hasn't gone anywhere yet:
http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewt ... 42&t=49842
Voidspanners as written is pretty cool and I thought I would just work on it, but it seems Artikid & crew have simply stopped working on it. So, I thought I would work on my own vision for the game, which differs from
Voidspanners in a number of ways.
Anyway, I'm interested in both sky ships and fantasy space ships in BF, and it seems like a single rules set could be developed that gave us both.
Again, let me know when you start and I'll help as I can.

Yes I think a single 'rule set' could cover both skyships and space ships. The only thing that I ever really disliked about spelljammer was to had to have a mage or cleric to power the ships. I did enjoy the tale of the 'Princess Ark'. I will have to skim throught all of this info and see what I can see... I am starting to think that maybe moving this project up on my list.....then again.

Spelljammer did have a few other means of powering things - quite a few among the other groups, from what I recall. I think the issue was giving a power source to make things more.. er, mundane. You can go to all sorts of crazy places, but were limited by what resources you could acquire.
I suppose it depends on what balance of Sail and Power you want to take. Once built, does is anything required to fly other than wind, skill, and sweat, or is there some arcane or material cost to lifting, or traveling? (I prefer catching the Astral winds for travel between worlds, but that's just me). You may want to have this as an option for GMs wanting a resource cost for travel.
