This is from my blog a while back. Written for Basic D&D, but we use it in the BFRPG game with no modification.

Maybe this is just me but I sometimes find being a heal-bot kinda fun. When you think about it, its just another way of modifying the total hit point pool of the combat, and swinging it in the party's favour. You just do it in a different way.

Also, actually getting close enough to heal a fighter who just got decked in combat can be quite scary.

Plus you get to role-play being all righteous and stuff.

I understand why people want some of the cleric's other spells to shine. For that, I favour quozl's suggestion - just let Clerics swap other learned spells for healing spells if they really need them.
