I gave copies of BFRPG along with sets of chessex dice my children, nephews, and some close family friends' kids. Although I did not get to participate in much festivities this year due to work, from what I understand my gifts were among the most liked... beating out various video game disks, action figures, and other gear. Simple geometric shapes used in conjunction with guided imagination has proven to be the ideal gift.
$4 for dice set, along with $10 Perfect Bound copy of BFRPG > scores of dollars spent on electronics, video games, comic book heroes in plastic, etc.
= SmootRK is best gift giver!!

Merry Christmas to my dice rolling chums!
It's good that you're working, SmootRK. Capitalmas is a very important time to keep the wheels of economics well oiled and the tills a'jinglin'! I raise my mulled wine to you.
(What work/slavery do you have to do again?)

Formerly did much IT/Accounting (being the 'go-to' computer guy). Started a business that ultimately failed (sadly costing me mega-bucks of all my savings), and now I am humbly working in healthcare (CNA and/or EMT depending where I work) at much lower wages but infinitely more fulfilling.

You know what is really funny...
... these children I have set up a game for are completely ignorant of the roots BFRPG or any of the inspirational games. They keep asking "lets play Basic Fantasy". They don't even (yet) know of all the wonderful incarnations and genres that they can play.
I can remember having such a drive to play my 'red box' edition with Keep on the Borderlands. Only there was no adult to guide my first steps.
Cheers!

lol I remember when we first tried to play. We were using a combo of redbox and some AD&D books. No clue what we were doing. We built magicusers and clerics even though we had no idea how to "use spells". We didnt understand just saying "I cast magic missle" lol We were using the redbdox to hit chartg for everything.trying to play through Temple of Elemental evil w/o a DM, we just had one person read the book and we'd go room to room. We did try to RP though which was funny. We even tried the "they went thataway" trick on some monsters that were chasing us. LOL
