OT Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Post by SmootRK »

NO SPOILERS!!

I saw the movie this morning. This is the sort of STAR WARS we should have gotten after Empire Strikes Back. I only have good things to say... still letting it sink in.

Others get a chance to see it yet?
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

I am going to see it Tuesday. I will avoid this thread until then.

Saw it. It was decent, but I had issue with it. Probably just me.

It's not just you. I loved a lot of it but there was some I disliked quite a bit.

OK then. Loved just about all of it. Like any movie I have seen, there are small or even rather big issues that I would have liked to see done differently.

#1 issue of mine: I would have preferred that the newer characters predominate the film/story. The old guard should have been less of the focus. The new characters are definitely strong enough to have been the major focus of the movie. I love Fin and Rey.

My other issues are rather minor, but might give spoiler info, so I will hold back on detailing such.

I thought it was awesome while viewing it (like, I remember sitting in the theater and thinking "omg this is awesome" during one fight scene). After the euphoria wore off, many of the plot lines seemed familiar and had me thinking what was truly original about the story. Still, a great movie.

I want to see more Rey time in the next movie too.

As for the old guard "cameos", maybe they were trying to gauge the interest for a Han Solo origin movie, though that's pretty much a no-brainer if you ask me. The franchise is an untapped gold mine for Disney right now.

Fido HP 9/9 AC 16
Anna HP 12/12 AC 15 (19 defensively)
Bruce HP 20/20 AC 16 (15 no shield)

I liked it a lot.

I felt like the pseudo-nazi villains really brought out the pulp roots.

I am excited to learn more about Rey. I feel like she should have an interesting backstory.

I hope they can keep up the quality.

It certainly felt different without Lucas at the helm. Had a lighter tone, much like the new Star Trek movies and even the Avengers (Poe was like Tony Stark without the extreme narcissism). Thought the three new heroes were perfectly cast and well directed.

But......

Went a bit fast in spots (I couldn't always follow the action), and, well, ANOTHER superweapon?

So not perfect, but still a welcome reboot. Wish we got a little more Luke, but hopefully the next movie will make that happen. This one was Han's (in terms of the old guard).

Not really a reboot in the fashion most people think of (a new luke, new obie-wan, etc...) but more along the lines of a jumpstart of the saga to continue on to a new generation.
