Starting Gold Amount Question

Hello. I know the manual says players typically determine how much gold they get by rolling 3d6 times 10. Now does that mean that I roll three six sided dice, add the numbers together and multiply that by 10? If that is the case, the example sheet the book shows has the player starting with 12 gold. That would be an impossible number to get as the lowest starting amount of gold would be 30. Am I doing this wrong. I am new to table top RPG. Thank you for your patience.

Hello,
You are correct, you would roll 3 six sided dice, total them and multiply by 10 for starting gold. The character Darion in the core rulebook has only 12gp left after buying equipment, weapons, and armor. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much! I hadn't taken that into consideration.

Exactly, that is the money a "naked" character has when is created. Clothes, armaments, food, and everything material (or maybe immaterial like braving someone as part of the character background) must come from that money.
