Missile weapon ranges
Could I ask what the logic is behind saying that missile weapons past the long range bracket have no effect?
Re: Missile weapon ranges
Not that I created this, but in my mind, at longer distances the energy needed to inflict damage with a sling or something would have been reduced to such a low level that it would just harmlessly bounce off.
Just my thoughts on it.

Not being a ballistics expert I would agree with what jw76 said except to add that, from what I understand, the energy bleed isn't linear.
Re: Missile weapon ranges
Yeah, that is definitely true. It would tend to lose more energy and faster the farther it has to travel. Might be why the penalty or bonus for the different ranges is not linear.

It is also to keep it simple, remember that BF is a Gamist game instead of a Simulationist game. Having a max range is easier than to add several other ranges and allowing characters to shoot from practically any distances limited by sight.

a bow only has so much pull. An arrow has a max distance it can fly. It not that it doesn't do damage after that, its that it doesn't go any further than that. my 2 coppers.

Hyway and dimirag both have it right, in different ways.
