Gaming supplies

Post by Mint »

Alright. Having spent a goodly amount of time googling and not having any luck...I have to ask. Is there no such thing as a large (approximately wall map size) paper hexagonal sheet that can be bought? I don't want pdf odt jpg bmp timbukto kalamazoo or any other computer file that can be printed out and taped together - just a nice large paper sheet with hexagons on it and preferably not huge hexagons either. More in the order of 1/2" - 3/4" max.

That maybe ? It's 1 inch hexagons though, 30" wide, 12' per $4 roll.

Personally, I like to use a double-sided Chessex Battlemat for playing, but you can't draw on it in advance.

Yeah I saw that site. Unfortunately the hexes are too big and the paper is coated. Thanks for trying though. :)

this is not large but its 1/2" http://www.amazon.com/Hexagonal-Graph-P ... SAV9PAXXN3

this is also not large but its nearly 1/2" but with 200 sheets http://www.amazon.com/Hexagonal-Graph-P ... 1495435148

this is 3/4" x 3/4" Hex Map - 34" x 44" but sold out back on 5/4/2012 . Maybe you can email them to see if they will get more in stock http://www.nobleknight.com/ProductDetai ... _GenreID_E_

or, you could get an electronic copy of a sheet the size you want it and then take it to staples or some other print shop and have them print it for you. A 36" x 48" sheet costs $7.79 http://www.staples.com/sbd/content/copy ... rints.html

Thanks Hyway! I'm seeing that this isn't going to end happily. So...next question...does no one make up their own worlds for when they make a campaign?

Why ask such a condescending question that you should know we'd all answer "no" to

lots of people make maps. They just do it electronically or they do it on a smaller sheet of paper. Or they print it themselves which you said you didn't want to do. I don't know why you can't create a hex sheet the size you want electronically then take it to a print shop to get printed out.

I just made a 24" x 36" 1/2" hex grid paper on pdf in about 20 seconds. Take the file to kinkos, alphagraphics, staples, etc and have them print it out http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/hexagonal/

I don't do the entire world beforehand, too much work for something that surely won't be used. I create only what I need, things that are important for the adventure or campaign, I have several games under creation, some of them have a detailed world creation history only because it is needed for the rest of the game, for the other games I don't go that far.

For the maps, here are places where you can get custom "gigantographies" either by telling them what you want on the paper or by giving them the picture to enlarge, you can also choose different materials in case you want to write and erase over it. I suppose there should be some graphic printer local near you where you can consult.

When I did hex maps for my games back in the '80's, I used 1/4" hex paper. You could get a saddle-stitched book of it, pull the staples and have an 11" x 17" sheet, perfect (in my opinion) for a continent or subcontinent map.

One book even had different colored lines on different sheets, green, red, blue, or black.

In the DMG Gary described a standard method for translating large hexes to small ones; you rotate the hexes from the horizontal to vertical, or vice versa, in the process. I used that as a way to convert from the large continental map to smaller local ones.

Later on I switched to more "natural" maps; I'm beginning to suspect that was a mistake. Wonder if I still have any of that hex paper...
