Backgrounds, Specialties, and Quasi Classes-

Post by _Timeshadows_ »

Hi Folks,

I have been a big fan of BFRPG since before the OSR identified itself as such, and my initial plans to publish Urutsk: World of Mystery was through BFRPG (but I didn't, more's the pity). I'm back here and looking through the Alternative Rules and Additions of this section, the idea came to me to combine it into a design method for creating custom PCs; not quite a point-buy method so much as a Pick-and-Choose menu of options.

Speaking with Solomoriah, he suggested I give you guys the heads up and ask for your input, which I gladly solicit.

I think that I'd like to try more of the P&C rather than the % increase on the Base Class model of the Quasi-Classes, but, I'm flexible on this point. I do want to keep the individual XP progression.

QC no longer use the % increase of XP.
Feel free to post any ideas or files containing your P&C method (even in incomplete form), I'm sure you'll get some feedback.

I'm not sure I understand, as it does still use +10%in the document at last download (within three weeks ago).

Thanks for the response, and looking for input.

The QC supplement changed to a xp cost some while ago.
The one located on the Downloads is R2 and should have been removed.

The current file is R4 and located on the Showcase

The Archer has a starting 500xp point cost.

There's also a Quasi Classes 2 Supplement

Yes, the r4 in the Showcase section is a substantial improvement over the +% method. It now works more like combo-classes and one can even easily figure out XP requirements if a character decides to pick up a quasi-class later than first level. In addition, there are a few extra Quasi-classes to work with (along with Dimi's QC2 supplement).
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

If an item is on the Downloads page it doesn't need to be in Showcase as well.

Smoot, if you've made updates to an item of yours on the Downloads page please be sure to send it to Solo so he can update it there.

The Quasi-Class idea has always been a little bit of a pariah. One of those "not the way it was done in ages past" thing. Because I can update and improve things independently within the Showcase, I think the document is better served there, and in this instance, I think Solomoriah might agree that the topic is "different" enough to be considered a little more "fringe" than things on the main downloads area.

If anything is done, Solo could simply remove the item from the main downloads area. I have suggested such in other topics/threads, but perhaps not directly via email communication with him.
