So....is the armour class 14 or 6?
Ack. Editing issue... 14 is the correct answer. I'll have to fix that before AA1 gets printed.
Crothall wrote:HD = Hit dice, right? what does it mean '1-1'?
Roll 1d8 and subtract 1 point, with a minimum of 1 point (of course). Monsters almost always use d8's for hit dice.
Crothall wrote:... they can move 60' per turn (what's with the 20 in brackets?).
20' per round, ignore the 60' entirely. Obviously this was originally written for the classic game rather than BFRPG. More editing...
Crothall wrote:The stuff after Sv, I'm guessing, is their Saving Throws?
Yes. Monsters save as class and level, so F1 is Fighter 1st level.
All of this is in the core rules, on the first page of the Monsters section (except, of course, for the editing errors... gah).
Let's just start with that...[/quote]

Looking at this adventure, it seems to me like it was written for Classic D&D.

It says there's two goblins. player can approach without being seen if they''re careful. How? Is that a die roll? How do I determine that?
Working out exactly when enemies becomes aware of PCs is a matter of judgement. There are so many variables it's hard to make a single rule that would cover all situations.
I agree with Hywaywolf. You should reward players who say they are being careful and let them get close to basic enemies like goblins, depending on terrain. Especially if it says so in the description.
Don't let them do what only a thief should have a slim chance to do - sneak right up and make melee attacks before the enemies even notice - but, let them do better than the average person.

No backstabbing for normal characters. That's good advice.

Normal characters can backstab, they just don't get the double damage. They do get the +2 from attacking from behind though.

That's in the rules!? I have never seen that before. Learn something new every day.

How can someone not be allowed to backstab. All you have to be is behind the character.

I think they are referring to the thief's special ability "backstab" which does double damage. A back attack is something anyone can do but it just doesn't get the x2 damage modifier like you said earlier Hywaywolf.

Could be they were referring to the +2 when attacking from behind. page 46
