Wow. Sorry to hear that. I feel for ya.

It's ok. Hey, I'm gaming with you guys now!
Though I think some of the other people took it a little harder than me. They kind of got into something of an argument over it.

Well maybe you can set up a text only game over on roll20. I'd be up for that. Maybe you need to mourn first though.

I'm not going to mourn over the fact that the group broke up. I'll just start gaming more online. As to d20, I'm not planning to. I'm pretty busy, and the good thing about PBPs is that I can check them while I'm doing something else.

I'd say it's definitely for the best, from what you have described.
This whole thing reminds me of a conversation I had on WoTC a while ago where all these posters (most of whom were not DMs) were trying to convince me that there was no such thing as a bad role-player, only "bad communication" and "mismatched expectations."
Honestly, what a steaming load. Of course there is such a thing as a bad role-player.
If you can identify a 'good' role-player then there must be such a thing as a bad one.
Hyper-violent, game-hogging, argumentative, DM-pressuring liars are just
bad role-players. Don't play with them.
And likewise, feeble, passive, unimaginative sponges who offer no direction to the game are
bad role-players.
Your job as DM is to make the bones of the world, mix it up with events and encounters, adjudicate the rules, and keep track of what is going on. It's up to the players to make cool characters and a cool story, and work with you rather than against you to do that. If they can't or won't do that, they are not doing their job as players.

Well, only one person in this latest group matches your first example. He was a Rules Lawyer too.
Probably one of the people in the latest group matched the second example.
The rest of the guys were ok, but they were friends with the bad players, and they wouldn't play without them.

That's tricky. Not much you can do there.
Good luck with your PbP anyway.

Yeah, it wasn't a great situation.

Well, you guys are doing your part in the PBP. Do you think I'm doing mine?
