Question about Spirtual Hammer

Post Thu Sep 23, 2021 6:38 pm

Is this spell the only attack a cleric can make on their turn, or can a cleric use their spiritual hammer and then attack with another weapon?

My take:

Only attack on some situations, as the Cleric can't lose the hammer from sight and must direct it attack after attack.

Maybe the Cleric can throw some stones at the same target (or do another action, cast another spell), as long as the above requirements are met, but melee combat is out of the question.

Sounds good. I know other versions of the spell give the cleric an extra attack.

I look at it as a range attack option for the cleric rather than an extra melee attack option.
It's at its best if the opponents can't immediately charge the cleric.

ACTUALLY... :D this is one of those cases where the GM can rule either way. I personally would allow the cleric to perform normal movement and attacks as long as he or she keeps the hammer in sight and within control range and does not fail to identify a target every round.

I agree. In my mind, this is the main function of the spell. This allows cleric to keep foes at bay while doing other stuff such as applying a healing spell, or casting other magics; though he can have the hammer move to attack distant foes. As a secondary minor effect, I treat the space the Spiritual Hammer is in as "occupied" so enemies cannot go right through it.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
