but i was jamming out to my itunes and it's overly obese playlist.
it randomly ended on Kid Rock's "I am the Bullgod" and i went.."oh yeah..cleric"

And the holy symbol became a joke as I sketched,..the bullgod.

but yeah thanks guys for the positive reinforcement and approval.

Next up:

A faun and a Kappa

then:

THe phaerim(sp?)
very cool... yes, you got spelling right. It was intentionally weird spelling.

Caneins too, I opted for a German style of spelling for them (but not a true German word at all... a play on the English word canine; the German word is actually eckzahn).

In the Field Guide, and one day in the New Races Supplement, the Kappa are renamed Kappian. They really were not based upon Kappa of legend (the Asian Mythical Creature). To be honest, they were inspired more by the Tortles of Mystarra... but I did not think the name would fly.

even thought the names are derived from latin, you could use one of these:

Turtles are reptiles of the order Chelonii[2] or Testudines

The largest living chelonian is the leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea),
Giant tortoises of the genera Geochelone, Meiolania,

I like:
Chelonian (s)
Tudine (s)
Coriacea (Coriaceai)

I figure, at least it's a turtle based name, not something that may confuse a japanese mytho knowledged person.

Oh, and i love the tortles of Mystara.

Chelonian sounds great to me... and very unique. I will make that official... and while I am at it, if you want to be creative with their appearance, we can consider a total re-write to suit such changes. We can give them a new spin, as I don't think they have been used by anyone to my knowledge including myself. I am not so attached to how they came out to begin with and perhaps some new perspective will cure that and make them interesting to more folks.

well i'm thinking more of a snapping turtle and less teenage mutant ninja turtle.
the tortles from mystara are cool, but everyone who is alive equates turtles to low dex/speed
so seeing a bloated tortle with a huge shield wall of a shell be a rogue/ranger is sort of laughable.
i'm thinking a bit more seaturtle shape or snapper shape, and less box turtle and red ear slider.

looking as a DM would at ecology..

these are swamp and wetland creatures. having to defend their nests and homes from lizard men and trolls and other nasties.. them being in slow motion and molasses speed isn't going to have their species living long.
i'm thinking to balance out their speed issue, either an aggressive snapper jaw to end off when the nasties get in close. A thinner/flatter profile will allow them to wait in shallower water and hide until the enemy is close.
I can see a lizard man jumping on a Chelonian and choking him with a spear shaft, and seeing the Chelonian just stretch the neck out and snap the jaw on the spear, turning it into splinters.

I'll work on a couple concepts and post them here and we'll see which feels best.
