In which LibraryLass posts some monsters
Re: In which LibraryLass posts some monsters
I don't know much about role playing games but I can tell you that for a lot of people using the word celestial juxtaposed with demon or devil or infernal is fairly irreverent. I'm saying this since you mentioned not wanting religious connotations. For a lot of people, though, celestial is consonant with heavenly. Would not do at all to infer that demons, devils, or anything infernal comes from heaven.
Re: In which LibraryLass posts some monsters
Infernal could be interpreted as fire i.e. hell, but you have a problem with Celestial, which I know can be interpreted as heaven/sky/etc. But we still can't help but think of Satan, hell, etc. when we read descriptions of demons and devils, no matter what they're named.
Like anything else, it's easy to levy criticism. If you don't like it, please offer suggestions for alternatives instead.
I don't think we're inferring that at all?Mint wrote:Would not do at all to infer that demons, devils, or anything infernal comes from heaven.

Mint, if you are referring to my "celestial devils and demons" expression know that I am not saying that devils and demons are celestial, I'm using using demons and devils instead of an unknown antonym, it would be "celestial, Name (X)" and "celestial, Name (y)" as an oppose creature to the "infernal, Name (devil)" and "infernal, Name (demon)", note than "name" is the monster/creature actual name.
If it where up to me I would not use any categories at all, no infernal, celestial, demon, nazgorian (sorry Solo), so a GM can group monsters as he likes.
It is not an irreverent thing (as it is not intended to anybody in particular) an a GM can rule that infernal and celestial live on the same place, and in fact, that place is a heavenly one even if that game world does not line up with other people beliefs.

Hey, I don't care whether they are included or not. In the end, it's up to each individual GM what religious beliefs (if any) they want present in their game.

This is what I was looking at when I made my comment. I thought it meant you wanted to lump all those planar beings under that as an umbrella.I still want to go with Celestial for the group name.
I wasn't criticizing in the least. I was trying to help by pointing out something that I thought would lead to trouble down the road. Was mistaken I guess. Don't need to bite my head off though.Like anything else, it's easy to levy criticism. If you don't like it, please offer suggestions for alternatives instead.
I understand this. Again, the gist of the conversation was that people were trying to avoid religious controversy and I was merely trying to point out something that I thought might be controversial to some. As in I was trying to be helpful. Excuse me if I wasn't. Can I have my bloody stump back now?It is not an irreverent thing (as it is not intended to anybody in particular) an a GM can rule that infernal and celestial live on the same place, and in fact, that place is a heavenly one even if that game world does not line up with other people beliefs.
Honestly you all I've read through some threads here and I'm noticing a tendency towards a bit of touchiness. We all need to chill some. No?

Don't worry, I didn't take your comments as bad criticism, I was only making may case, sorry If my wordings seems harsh, not my intention (blame my language limitations).
We all have strong or firm opinions and always express them on a non-violent nor insulting way, so, don't worry about that either.

I will be listing it as "Celestial, Solar" unless someone has a better name for LL's Angel entry.
Demons, etc. will stay under the Infernal name. I never said otherwise.

Sorry I blew up at everyone. No real reason to now that I think about it. Guess I punched my own button. My apologies.

No apology necessary! I think we all have been a touch crabby lately
