Well, I recall that there were some divine creatures included in the MM2. Do you know if those names are copyrighted? (Namely "Solar". I've always thought that that was a good name for a divine being). I personally just like to have both types of planar creatures. Then I can run fights between them. ;)

That name could work, as Pathfinder uses it

3.x used it earlier. As Chiisu notes its pedigree goes basically all the way back.

If we go with "Infernal" for some creatures, can we use "Celestial"? We are also using "devil" and "demon", so we could use some antonyms:

Infernal <--> Celestial
Devil <--> ?
Demon <--> ??

I like that term, Celestial.

So it could be "Celestial, Solar" or such. Hmmm, I think that could work...

Demon and Devil in the "advanced" game we're all thinking of hail from different domains in the dark side of eternity. In that game, the other planes have a definite geography. I emphatically do not want that. It's okay to have a group of outsider baddies who come from the same other plane (i.e. Nazgorean) but I don't want to draw a map of the other planes. I'd like to assume that such a map is impossible to draw on paper.

So I'm cool with using those words interchangeably, that is, Demon and Devil are just Infernals and that's okay.

Agreed, there no need form "monster geography" beyond any basic need, I said about the Celestial and the non-named "celestial devils and demons" just to give an opposite spectrum, to have greater and lesser celestial by a given tag and not to place them into a cosmological map

Infernals (devils) and Abyssals (demons)

I definitely would remove any references concerning religion, planar level, etc. Let the GM come up with (or leave as a mystery) the origins of the monsters. As noted by Solo and Smoot we're not gonna clog up the pages with huge paragraphs of background material (honestly there's other games that do it better).

I still want to go with Celestial for the group name.
