Good Points, and something that should be fairly easy to modify in the Ghost entry. Another one of those things that will give BFRPG its own vibe with various creatures (something I prefer).Solomoriah wrote:Honestly, I think I'd like CON drain over aging for both the ghost and the lich.
Aging effects require an official rule for what happens when you get older; CON drain would apply existing mechanics to the character affected, and you could argue that getting older reduces CON anyway. All you'd have to do is indicate the recovery rate, if any.

Re: jackels creations
Alright everyone, I have looked at the other lich. The lich will be a magic user or cleric who hassold his soul to the god of unlife. So it would have variable stats for stuff like HD Save As. and such.
Here's is a new modified stat line per thought process above.
Lich
AC: 19 +
HD: Varies 10- 20 As per Magic User or Cleric
# of attacks: 2 ( Touch, Spells)
Damage: Touch, 1d10 = CON drain, As per Spell
Movement: 30'
# appearing: 1
Save As: As per Magic User or Cleric level
Morale: *
TT: (not sure still, I will look through the types and proablly set it up as a level 10 would have J and a level 11 would have an I. Something to that effect.)
XP: Still have to figure this up.
Description:
A lich is a human Magic User or Cleric who has used dark magic in a ritual to sell his/ her soul to the god of unlife.
The person performing this ritual must between 10th and 20th level. The DM should decide what level the person was at when they performed the ritual. and use the HD of that level. Liches can only be hit by magical weapons, or spells. Liches are immuned to Sleep, Charm and hold spells ( any others?) The Lich will NEVER run from combat however, Lichs are HIGHLY Intelligent beings and will not run from a fight UNLESS there is no way for it to win. If the Lich touches an opponent then the opponent will suffer 1d10 HP damage and a CON drain. The CON drain is one point per round and 'recharges' the liches HP at 1:1. If a characters CON reaches 0 the character falls unconscious. A character may recover CON points as per Constitution Point Loss on pg 51 of the Rulebook.
Ok, so there it is. What do you all think? I thought about using energy drain instead of the CON drain, but I think I will save that for the lich lord, more on that nasty peice of work later.

Re: jackels creations
here is how I re-wrote the Aging Effect of Ghosts into straight Constitution Drain.
Simply encountering a particular ghost for the first time is so terrifying that the creature must save vs. spells or flee for 2d6 rounds. A ghost's gaze attack is effective up to 30 feet causing the affected target to save vs. spells or be paralyzed in fright for 2d4 rounds. A ghost that hits a living target with its touch attack deals 1d6 points of damage and drains the victim 1d4 points of Constitution while healing itself of an equal amount of damage.
The Constitution damage is permanent, a result of physical and psychic drain. Due to longevity and/or vitality traits, elves can ignore the first 10 points of Constitution drain; dwarves the first 4 points, and halflings the first 2 points of loss. Lost Constitution can be regained at a rate of 1 point per casting of restoration; nothing else (except a wish) can restore Constitution lost to a ghost. If a character's Constitution falls to 0, he or she dies permanently and can not be raised (but still may be reincarnated).

I like it. I'll have to steal it for th lich. I feel like something is still missing. I dono't know maybe it is cause I still have the lich lord idea stuck in my head.

Here is my final version of lich for now. If anyone play test this please send me some feedback.

Re: jackels creations
In general I like it, but now it seems almost the same as Ghost but with spells.
I think you could add other small details, or if I import this to the Field Guide (with your permission and giving you the actual credit), I will edit/tweak and also add some ideas of my own. Is that OK?
For instance one might say, "Liches, as undead and undying, continue their schemes even as their flesh slowly decays away to dust. Newer Liches appear rather ghoulish or zombie-like, albeit with grim intelligence. After some time, they appear quite skeletal. Like skeletons, Liches take 1/2 damage from edged weapons, ... (taken from skeleton entry).
Then, some details of a phylactery:
Lich's life-force being contained safely within an object, often hidden and protected. This phylactery allows the Lich to persist even beyond its physical form. This allows the Lich to slowly regenerate enough of its physical body to be essentially whole again (1 hp of regeneration per hour). In order to completely destroy a Lich, its phylactery must be destroyed. If the phylactery is located, only very destructive magics can actually damage the object, often taking the efforts of several powerful individuals working in unison, or catastrophic natural damage such as immersing into lava, being struck by natural lightning, being swallowed by a mythical legendary beast, etc. The exact details are left to the Game Master to decide based upon his campaign designs.
anyhow, that sort of stuff... do you mind if I go ahead and work it into the Field Guide?

Re: jackels creations
Lich, as I have re-written for the Field Guide. Let me know if anything should be tweaked.
Lich*
Armor Class: 19+ †
Hit Dice: 10+
No. of Attacks: 1 (as touch, weapon, or spell)
Damage: 1d8 +drain touch, by weapon, or by spell
Movement: 30'
No. Appearing: 1
Save As:Magic-User or Cleric: by hit dice
Morale: 8
Treasure Type:
XP:
A lich is a Magic-User or Cleric (of at least 10th level, with all spells and powers intact) who has used dark magic to prolong his life in a state of undeath. A lich continues his schemes even as his flesh slowly decays away to dust. Newer liches appear rather ghoulish or zombie-like, albeit with grim intelligence and eyes that burn as if lit by small flames. After some time, they appear quite skeletal. A lich is never encountered by accident or as a wandering monster; always being purposefully placed by the Game Master. As such a highly intelligent and capable foe, a lich need only check morale as the GM deems it necessary. Regardless, a lich will act accordingly to preserve itself by any means it has at its disposal. It knows the value and function of all magical items in its lair, and will use them intelligently to best effect.
Simply encountering a particular lich for the first time is so terrifying that the creature must save vs. spells or flee for 2d6 rounds. A lich's gaze attack is effective up to 30 feet causing the affected target to save vs. spells or be paralyzed in fright for 2d4 rounds. One often prefers to engage others via spells at a distance over physical attacks. A lich that hits a living target with its touch attack deals 1d8 points of damage and drains the victim 1d4 points of Constitution while healing itself of an equal amount of damage.
The Constitution damage is permanent, a result of physical and psychic drain. Lost Constitution can be regained at a rate of 1 point per casting of restoration spell; nothing else (except a wish) can restore Constitution lost to a lich. If a character's Constitution falls to 0, he or she dies permanently and can not be raised (but still may be reincarnated).
Liches can only be hit by magical weapons or spells. Like normal skeletons, they take only ½ damage from edged weapons, and only a single point from arrows, bolts or sling stones (plus any magical bonus). As with all undead, they can be Turned by a cleric (as vampire but with a -6 penalty on the check), and are immune to sleep, charm or hold magic.
A lich's life-force is contained safely within an object, often hidden and protected. This phylactery allows the lich to persist even beyond its physical form. The lich will slowly regenerate, or even reform, to be essentially whole again (1 hp of regeneration per hour). In order to completely destroy a Lich, its phylactery must be located and destroyed. Once located, only very destructive magics can actually damage the object, often taking the efforts of several powerful individuals working in unison, or catastrophic natural damage such as immersing into lava, being struck by natural lightning, being swallowed by a mythical legendary beast, etc. The exact details are left to the Game Master to decide based upon his campaign designs.

Re: jackels creations
Hey Smoot,
I like it over all. One point I think we might(?) change is
"If a character's Constitution falls to 0, he or she dies permanently and can not be raised (but still may be reincarnated)."
Should we put in there that the lich could raise the dead character as an undead being under its control?
Other that that I still have to figure the Treasure and the XP. I will try to get that to you either later tonight or tomorrow night. Thanks for all your help on it.
