There were a couple of "Rulebook" references that I went ahead and changed into "Core Rules" just so it doesn't confuse people. I've also fixed a couple of grammatical mistakes and widened the "Weight" column in the 'Tack and Harness' table. (In the PDF, the word "Weight" was broken into two lines.)

It's not really a new version, just a slightly edited one.

...

Well, I've tried uploading both the ODT and PDF files here, but each time I got the message that those extensions are not allowed. I'll email them to Solomoriah.

Egads! I left off most of the description of the Protection from Evil spell.

It should read:

Protection from Evil* Range: touch
Cleric 1, Magic-User 1 Duration: 1 turn/level

This spell wards a creature from attacks by evil creatures,
from mental control, and from summoned creatures. It
creates a magical barrier around the subject at a distance
of 1 foot. The barrier moves with the subject and has
three major effects.

First, the subject gains a +2 bonus to AC and a +2 bonus
on saves. Both these bonuses apply against attacks made
or effects created by evil creatures. Note that the
definition of “evil” is left to the individual GM to decide.

Second, the barrier blocks any attempt to possess the
warded creature (by a magic jar attack, for example) or to
exercise mental control over the creature (including charm
spells or effects). The protection does not prevent such
effects from targeting the protected creature, but it
suppresses the effect for the duration of the protection
from evil effect. If the protection from evil effect ends
before the effect granting control does, the would-be
controller would then be able to command the controlled
creature. Likewise, the barrier keeps out a possessing life
force but does not expel one if it is in place before the spell
is cast.

Third, the spell prevents bodily contact by summoned
creatures (regardless of whether they are “evil” or not).
This causes the natural weapon attacks of such creatures
to fail and the creatures to recoil if such attacks require
touching the warded creature. The protection against
contact by summoned creatures ends if the warded
creature makes an attack against or tries to force the
barrier against the blocked creature.

Reversed, this spell becomes protection from good. It
functions in all ways as described above, save that “good”
creatures are kept away, rather than “evil” creatures.

Another omission; I left the class attack bonuses out.

The simplest fix is to add it to the character creation process on p. 1. Line 7 now becomes:

7. Write down your attack bonus of +1. (All characters have +1 at first level.)

I'll keep going through the supplement to see if I left anything else out or made other errors, then maybe next week sometime put out a corrected release.

Thanks for your work on this. Its one of the best resources for new players. Now just need to add the beginners essential page numbers to this http://basicfantasy.org/download.cgi/Ch ... ill-v4.pdf and new players can roll up in moments.

I'm afraid we can't do that. Mike only submitted his form in PDF format, so we can't edit it. Unless you can find Mike and talk him into making the changes...

I'll search for him, but for now I'll just right them on with pencil and then copy that sheet.

That's a good idea. I could do that with another character sheet. If there was a consensus on which one to use, I'd do it. (I use the BFRPG Standard Character Sheet and have turned the PDF into a fillable form.)

Or, someone could create an ODT file for Mike Hill's character sheet from scratch.

I don't see any reason we can't have more than one, but I'm only volunteering to do one. If others want other character sheets done, they can do them and post them here, or in the comments to those other character sheets, right?

FWIW, I did look at Mike Hill's PDF, but I can't seem to edit it or export it to OOo, so I can't work with that one until we get a different version.

Update: If someone re-did Mike's character sheet in Word, I could convert that to ODT.
