¡Basic Fantasy en español!

Post by kerc »

I've started working on translating the Basic Fantasy rulebook to Spanish. Started yesterday and I'm making good progress, slow but steady.

Are there any other Spanish speakers here? Maybe we can split the load and get it out there faster.

One of the things I'll do is add an English to Spanish appendix with term definitions. For example, something like Armor Class should be Categoría de Armadura or Nivel de Armadura. But if a potential player searches for that on the web, he will find nothing. So we need to use the English terms throughout.

Moved to GD until/unless work is posted.

As Solo will tell you, we highly recommend attaching your current work (as much or little as that may be so far) (recommend in ODT format) so that it's not lost and others can help out and/or pick up on it later down the road.

Got it. Thanks!

About the Spanish... Iberian or Latin?

The most common translation for Armor Class is Clase de Armadura, I would stick with that.

I will defer to your opinions on the terminology, but I do think it best to translate the terms rather than present them in English. Whether or not to translate the name of the game is left to you... I've been told the translation to some languages isn't very good.

"Fantasía Básica" isn't a bad name at all

Okay, guys, here's the Google Docs document so far. I'm translating to Latin Spanish, by the way:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Njq ... sp=sharing

I'm using Google Translate for the bulk of it, which with the recent improvements it has become seriously good; easily takes care of 65%-70% of the work. However, you always have to go, read everything, and do some editing to be sure it's fine.

This is two days of work... And I'm still missing the tables. Those will go in last.

Here's the ODT: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B66Sjh ... sp=sharing

If someone is interested in editing, PM me your email so that I can give you editing access. This should be fun!

Added links and attachments to first post.

On my LO opening and trying to browse the ODT file was brutally slow, not sure if it was the auto-spellcheck or what.

Also, the Google Docs document will always be more up-to-date than the ODT, since that's the one I do the work in. You might wanna look at that one instead...

As far as I can tell, B/X was never officially published in Spanish. The first edition in that language was Mentzer. So that makes this translation extra special!
