updated the draft in the first post...
- details of death and separation
- some fluff about special familiars and potentially utilizing the general concept for Special Mounts or Druid-style animal companions... pretty vague here. Pretty much put the ball in the GM hands to decide particulars of such applications.
- began listing creatures that could be interesting alternate or special familiars.
Of course, input here is welcome. I think I will have to re-write the info regardless to get details down to just the essentials without the rambling. That happens sometimes when I delve into the theoretical side of such topics.

just a link before I read the new file
here a discussion on Pathfinder Bonded items
http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread ... finder-RPG
here the central part:
"One of the most important additions to Pathfinder is the new ability granted to all Wizards, the Arcane Bonded Item. This ability is in chosen in substitution to choosing to have a familiar. Instead of a familiar, the Wizard gets the ability to empower any item he chooses as his bonded item. This arcane bond grants to the wizard the ability to spontaneously cast any spell he or she knows, once per day, without preparing the spell."
anyhow you can find it also in the pathfinder srd:

That is interesting... something akin to the Channelling, but with any known (in spellbook). When it comes to a channelling version of my familiars/items, I think I would still prefer having spells assigned to them than to simply open up their spell book to the character one or more times each day.

I'am 100% with you on this, I posted it for reference purpose, looking at your file I think that I am revising the channeling into using some sort of spell table for the number of spell held by the item
looking between my old notes and post around the web I found also other idea on recovering spell not memorized but it's material for another thread

No worries... when something good appears I can easily fit it in. Short documents make it easier, as it does not break up too much of the flow of the document.

You know I have to admit I wasn't sold on the flederkatze at first but it's grown on me a bit.

I wrote a few different monsters in the field guide that have very similar abilities and power levels. This was pretty much on purpose so that these potential "special familiars" come out fairly equal (as a game balance thing). I really like the Flederkatze too; the whole cat with extra flair. I can imagine them looking a bit like those hairless cats (though they have hair) but with darker skin/fur and a little bit more bat-like features (ears, nose)... hunting bats like a normal cat hunts mice.
