Yes... other game editions make it either 'use buckler as shield' or 'utilize object held in off-hand (shield hand)', but certainly not both.
When it comes to wood vs metal, I understand there are varieties of materials used in combination for each , but a shield is generally wood or metal (as in the main component of the protective surface). For instance, Vikings used wood shields primarily, even for their big 'kite' style shields.
As to other things, I suppose it is all really subjective... One of the nice things about *.odt files... I can make my own changes to suit.

I'm prone to agree with the rest of his design decisions.
One of my favorite 1E/2E characters was John Northcrosse; his combination of 18/12 Strength and 17 Dexterity allowed him to use two-weapon combat (what we called it before somebody decided "dual wield" sounded cooler). He carried a bastard sword over his shoulder, daggers in various places, and had a buckler shield; sometimes he'd fight using the bastard sword in both hands, sometimes with bastard sword and dagger, and sometimes with bastard sword and buckler. In one battle against relatively weak foes, he accounted for more opponents with the dagger than the sword.
Using this supplement and the Combat Options supplement, you can almost reproduce John Northcrosse. Needs only the bastard sword to finish him up.

That's absolutely fine by me. If you would be so kind to make the change, I would appreciate it. I think that leaves only the one minor change in the table ordering...so I guess R3 isn't a necessity.
Either way, I'm happy with the supplement as stands.
Now to start working on a weapons supplement

I'll be releasing an updated R3 pretty soon. I just wanted to see your reply before changing it.

That means that the item I put under the Buckler description which allows players to dual wield with a buckler at the same time can be revised. Simply remove the last sentence of that paragraph. The GM can decide if a player can dual wield with buckler (or any other shield for that matter).

No, I like it as I described it. Pointing out that it is possible to switch between using the off-hand weapon and the buckler is a good thing. I don't like to over-clarify, but neither do I like to under-clarify.

That sounds good to me. Thanks for your input and editing

Regardless of exact wording, this is a very nice addition.
I look forward to a Weapon Supplement. I hope that we can stay very simplistic with the weapons... I don't mind a few new weapons/rules, but mostly I think the weapons should be mostly on a list of Weapon Equivalents. For instance, Longsword, Scimitar, Katana, Falchion, etc. are all functionally the same when it comes to BFRPG rules... Daggers, Bowie-Knifes, Kuri, Punch-Daggers, etc. are all still Daggers (functionally). That said, expansive lists are great!
Perhaps we can expand this project into an expanded Equipment Supplement? I would love to have a truly expansive listing of mundane equipment (and/or slightly fantasy inspired equipment) for BFRPG. This could include various weapon equivalents, expanded lists of vehicles, adventuring equipment, etc.
There have been various netbooks out there that we could reference, but they are getting harder to locate. Several links I have tried have been dead links. Regardless, they were all developed for other editions and are often very wacky sometimes when it come to items and costs (reflecting the author(s) campaigns or preferences). A well thought out and fairly comprehensive list of BFRPG balanced items would be great.

This was the idea I had in mind. There are short swords, long swords...etc. A falcion, scimitar, dao sword, etc. are all considered "long swords" in their properties...although some may cost more or weigh less.
It is my intent to make Katana and Bastard Sword a new grouping of swords that can be used both 1 handed or 2 handed.

It is my intent to do a large list of "mundane" equipment as well...although I had intended to keep it separate from things such as barding, ships, other vehicles, etc.

If you can provide the links, I might be able to find copies on the net

I did a number of searches a while back... I will try again when I have a little time. Right now, me and the kids are going to watch the movie "Ladyhawk" which I have not seen in some time. Matthew Broderick looks like a little boy.
