Am I still in time for making some drawings for Field Guide 2? or should I skip to 3?

Welcome! Still plenty of time for FG2! Just check out r28 as well as the ones Werna has posted recently to see which entries are already spoken for (I'll be posting r29 before too long).

As always be sure to submit in grayscale and drawn/scanned in at 300 DPI.

Actually there's been enough new artwork I went ahead and uploaded r29.
