He's a PERFECT old school illustration. Reminds me of Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings movie style.

Great work!!!! (note the multiple exclamation points).

Very nice. Grim and imposing.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

You're right, it is very Bakshi-esque, especially the last part of the movie where he ran out of money and had to get creative. Perfect for this monster.
Great stuff Zoltor!

Agreed, one of the best I've seen on here. 8-)
If time permits in the near future I may put those 2 images into r42, otherwise they'll be in r43 for sure.

I'm posting R42 as I write this. It's looking pretty good; I'd like to make a print release candidate out of it, but there are two issues with that. First, there is a flow problem in the middle of the G's that could be fixed with one more one-column illustration. Anyone feel like drawing the rope or chain golem? Either would be a great help to me.

The second issue is more significant, I'm afraid... we have no color cover art. No one has volunteered to do this, and as long as we have nothing for the cover, we print nothing.

... and, it's done. So here it is...

Announcing!

The Basic Fantasy Field Guide Volume 2, Release 42 -- January 19, 2021
More edits, more art, and an extensive layout pass has resulted in this new release of the Basic Fantasy Field Guide, Volume 2. It is not a print release candidate, as there are flow issues that I need a bit of artwork to resolve; if you want to help out, see the thread in the Workshop for details.

Any size recommendations for the Rope/Chain Golem's pic?

Reading its description, I think the Rope Golem could benefit from a little redoing of the throttling special ability, as is it now on 3 rounds the character dies:
1st round: Grabbed.
2nd round: Neck looped, but it says it will loop whatever it thinks its the victim's neck, so a success chance could be applied here? Using some kind of hit locations to know what is looped will complicate things...
3rd round: Dead. It should either take more than 10 seconds to happen or at least call for a Death Saving Throw.
Sorry for any misspelling or writing error, I am not a native English speaker

Re: the front cover: awhile back MitchellsInk posted a candidate; I didn't know if it was detailed enough. I certainly don't want to discourage him to be in the running for the cover.
Of course if the other artists have ideas/candidates we'd love to see those as well.

Hmm. I'll review the rope golem stats. Thanks for the heads-up.

Mitchell's pic is really interesting, but I'm afraid I won't be able to get enough contrast in print. I had actually seen that one and then forgotten about it.
