Basic Fantasy Field Guide Volume 2
Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide 2
Oh it's nothing you did, it's inevitable when editing a document.
Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide 2
Up through S; quite a few little corrections; a lot of re-writing "they/their/etc." to "it/its/etc." where appropriate (i.e. not every single instance).

Solo, I've put r34 into the Projects folder.

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide 2
Working my way through it now.
Questions:
Battle Bears: Are their spears parts of their body, or actual separate weapons? If the latter, can they throw them? If the former, why are they described as being "held?"
Long Bears: They have a dozen legs, but can only attack with two of them? Why?
Porcupine Bear/Quill Bear: I'm still bothered by the similarities of these two monsters... they are just too much alike. What I'm considering right now is to combine them into a single entry, probably called Quill Bear because I think that sounds better, but with stats for "normal" Quill Bears as well as "Huge" ones. The smaller variety would have the lower stats as given for the current Quill Bear, while the Huge variety would have the higher Porcupine Bear stats. More or less, anyway. The combined Quill Bear would have the special features of the Porcupine Bear as they are more interestingly described (in my opinion) with some editing to include as much of the original Quill Bear text as possible.
Ack. Easier to do it than to explain it. I'm attaching a single page PDF with my combined Quill-Bear version; anyone interested may comment here, before I decide whether or not to include it. I will say that I'm not agreeable to the current situation... the monsters are really too much alike, conceptually, and if we don't combine them, I feel like we have to kick one out.
... and, my time is up. More later.

I have no issues with combining the concepts. I like a lot of the extra detail and "weirdness" that the secondary source had, over the 'basic animal' (albeit a tad weird) version I had.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

It looks good to me.

Re: Basic Fantasy Field Guide 2
Okay then, I'm going forward with the combined monster entry.
I'm liking the Long Bear less and less. It's a suitably weird creature, but I just don't get the stats... it's actually LESS of a threat than most bears, due to its lack of a hug attack, and though it has a bunch of legs it really doesn't get to use them. At 7 HD it isn't as big of a challenge as you'd expect from its sheer size. Indeed, the stats indicate that it can't bite and claw in the same round, as literally every other bear can.
