Welcome to the Borderlands

Post by MedievalMan »

(Party time)

Your party has journeyed for many days from the comforting confines of Dolmvay to the wild and rugged borderlands. The dangerous realm separating the wilderness from the more civilized southern lands. Here bandits, goblins, ruks, giants, and creatures more foul hold sway and you are an intruder upon their domain.

You have been sent to ascertain the whereabouts of Clyne Elffrin, the local Adventurers Guild representative. Having met your guide several miles ago you now find yourselves upon a small hillock looking down on the town of Trolls Crossing. A single road, the very one you followed in fact, runs through the town before winding its way north into the dark and foreboding woods. You know the road eventually goes all the way to the mountains where the ancient delves of the dwarves are located. The road is a major trade highway, making it and the area around the town a hotspot for banditry and ruk activity. Any number of threats could have killed Elffrin in this savage land.

Descending from the hill you travel the short distance before at last arriving at the gate. A group of soldiers stand guard and ask you your business.

Who is your groups leader?
Why are you here?
Where are you staying?

They also let you know about a few of the towns laws.

1. No weapons are allowed to be unsheathed while in town except in self defense. If you do so you will be fined 50gp
2. Anyone caught outside the town gate after dark will NOT under any circumstance be allowed entrance.
3. Should you be caught stealing you will lose a finger. If you are caught again you will lose a hand.
4. Should you caught committing the act of murder in town without justification, you will be hanged.
5. you are found to be a bandit or consort with such folk, you will be hanged.
6. Should you perform unlawful acts of sorcery, you will be hanged.
7. Should you be caught performing human sacrifice, you will be hanged.
8. If you are caught drunk after midnight you will be fined 5gp.

Welcome to Trolls Crossing. Enjoy your stay.

Thorgrim slinks towards the back of the group, hoping that one of the others will speak up. His speech impediment, albeit very slight, had always made him self-conscious and wary of the spotlight. He nonchalantly slides behind Seor, trying to hide without appearing to hide.
The problem with doing something really stupid to impress people is that they may just be impressed by how stupid you really are.

Dwali stands to the side and waits for someone else to step forward. He has no plans to lead this expedition. He then begins to whistle quietly to himself.

Talim makes his way to the front of the group, slightly annoyed that no one else has spoken up.

"Greetings! I am Talim Lightfoot of the Adventurer's Guild. The Guild has not heard from Clyne Elffrin, the local guild representative, for some time now. We are here to ascertain his whereabouts."

If asked about accomodations Talim replies that the party hopes to find lodging in the town.

OOC: What are considered "unlawful acts of sorcery"?

OOC: Raising the undead, summoning "demons", charming people, etc.

The guards give your group a quick once over and wave you through the gates.

Talim is now the groups leader, I guess?

Entering through the gates you make your way up the road to a large building near the center of town that must be the local INN. A large sign hangs above the open entryway proclaiming the establishment to be The Merry Warrior. Below the name the image of fighter raising his mug with a smile on his face can be seen.

Entering the Inn you are greeted by a plump middle aged woman.

"Welcome friends to the Merry Warrior! I am Icel, humble innkeeper and your loyal servant. How may I aid such a fine group such as yours this day?"

She beams a wide smile before scuttling back behind her podium readying ink and quill.

(OOC: Well, he's Lawful, well-rounded, has a mysterious past, and he's got a sword. He fits the profile. :D )

After they pass through the gates, Magner starts muttering to nobody in particular: "Murder, that's a hangin'. Nasty sorcery, that's a hangin'. Human sacrifice, that's a hangin'. Hangin' with bandits, that's definitely a hangin'. Is it just me or does it sound like their laws were written by the rope-walk guild?"

Frost whuffles in agreement. Or maybe he's just being patronizing.

Magner exchanges uncomfortable glances with the locals, looking for folks that are particularly surprised by the sizable crew of soldiers, and a dog, that has sauntered into town. With trinkets dangling from the drape of his wolf-hide hood, and his cloak drawn around like a mantle, he more looks the part of the wood priest than the hunter.

Eying the sign of the Merry Warrior, he stares for a bit at the image of the mug, licks his lips, and asks Talim "How much are we getting paid for this?", before they proceed inside.
Go with a smile!

You think back to when you left Dolmvay, the guild rep their promised 100gp once you learn the whereabouts of Elffrin and report your findings to the him. Whether in person or by note. If by note then you have to send proof of Elffrin' status, IE if he's dead they want his guild tag.

That's a hundred gold, then. Split four ways.
To the innkeeper
"Our party needs lodgings."
OOC: Is my math right, who's still playing? 25gp's not very much, this adventure had better be lucrative!
