BTW, JoeCarr, did you want to be included on the list now that it is more inclusive (or less exclusive, depending on your point of view) :)

Closing the Game

It would seem this game has rather lost its momentum over the last month and, as I don't like leaving things hanging, I'm going to close it down. A big thank you once again for indulging me with the playtest ... it has been very useful from my side in terms of getting the rules properly straightened...

Breeze

There's barely any breeze at all ... it's a warm, still, sunny day. It's unlikely that a scent, or indeed smoke from a bonfire, would carry any great distance.

Above the Cave

You arrange the pile of firewood just outside the cave mouth so that it will to be visible from the ridge above. When you are satisfied that a dropped torch or similar ought to stand a reasonable chance of igniting it, you gather your belongings and head south-west along the foot of the ridge. The h...

Ha! Good thinking, yes. It would be quite a long and arduous trek (an hour perhaps, or a little less), but it wouldn't be perilous like the sheer climb in front of you.

Clarifications

Hang on a mo', let me clarify a couple of things: 1. The nature of ridge is that the first person up is going to have to climb pretty much unaided. It will require a successful Climb Walls skill roll to get to the top. Failure will mean falling and possible injury. A fumble will mean certain injury...

Re: Why BFRPG?

As some have mentioned above, for me it is the solidity of the system. It's simple, robust, yet surprisingly full featured given that its entirely contained within just 150-ish pages. I've played Basic Fantasy quite a bit over the last couple of years and it just works (really well!). My preference ...

Elevation

"The smoking out idea sounds good" Filibert says. He will start collecting wood and other flammable materials. He will also check to see if there are any trees or other elevated areas that would serve as a safe platform to attack from. ( Sorry, missed that  ) Filibert can see two op...

Re: Move + Cast?

I'm also in the move and cast camp. It never occurred to me to do otherwise - as per the original post it seems to be what the rules as written imply.
