Re: Any tips for overland travel gameplay?

I'll start off by agreeing with Metroknight and Dimirag, that you have to know more about what you and your players want to get out of overland travel. Adding more description may be good to a point . For me, and I think most other players, the most important aspect to wilderness travel (and what ma...

Re: Question about items/potions

Unless it is obvious, I usually hide an item's true identity until it has been tested. This usually means using the item in combat if a weapon, or drinking the potion. I run poisons differently, so in my game a sip is not going to kill them outright, but it also won't fully identify a potion. So a p...

Re: noob questions about monsters

Whenever I have large numbers of similar opponents, I create a roster with a designation number and HP before hand. I usually just use a digital dice roller or the checkbox generator below to generate the HP values. Remember that the average of a d4 is 2.5, d6 is 3.5, and d8 is 4.5, so if nothing el...

Re: Magical Item Compendium

From what I recall (it's been years since I've looked at it) OSRIC has a funky license and a lot/most of its content isn't actually Open Content. If it's in the 3.5 SRD , start from there instead. That being said, unless Solo says otherwise I'd really like to limit porting in existing stuff; this c...

Re: Magical Item Compendium

This looks really good so far. I’ve noticed a few items that are out of order, which I’ll make a list for, and correct. I’d like to add a few more magic items that are not in Iron Falcon, but are considered “classics” e.g. armor of etherealness, potion of fire-breathing, etc. The question I have is,...

Re: Equipment Emporium Supplement

The little research I’ve done says there is a dispute about whether ring mail and chain mail were actually different historically, so I would say that’s metallic. Brigandine is usually cloth, with metal plates riveted to the inside. Weight-wise it is definitely metallic, but in terms of mobility, I ...

Re: Arrows

Fears that barbed arrow heads make goblins too powerful are unfounded. Goblins, and kobolds and troglodytes, are among the weakest opponents party members can face. Giving them a special weapon will make these boring encounters more interesting. Furthermore, it allows goblins to capture bigger foes...

Re: Feats?

My friend's rules went like this: "I just let my players home brew stuff, and adjusted balance so nothing would be more powerful than a +2 ability score increase, and gave feats at level multiples of 4. I also gave the option of just increasing an ability by +2 at these levels." Note he had other ho...
