Somewhere on the Workshop is a supplement that allows for the conversion of a 0LVL NPC into a 1st level retainer.

Well, sometimes, like with Men-at-Arms, they are 0-levels who help beginning adventure parties out.

Experience points for level zero NPCs

Just wondering how others handle experience points for level zero NPCs. My players have hired 3 men-at-arms. I'm awarding half a share of the XP to the men-at-arms, but at what point do the men-at-arms reach level one? Do they automatically become fighters after that point or should they roll for ab...

When we rebooted my most recent campaign, we switched from B/X to BFRPG. One book, and the level progression is a bit more balanced. And one player jumped right in and found the barbarian in the quasi-classes. I was a little worried, but since all the rules are accessible for free, no issues at all...
