Our party is definitely not oozing charisma. I'm surprised this guy even stopped to talk to us. He must be desperate.

Eran moves to the opposite side of the campfire from the new arrival. With his back to the fire he scans the surroundings. He loosens his sword in its sheath and quickly thinks through his Sleep spell.

Magic armor encumbrance is the same as non-magical. The difference is that it puts you on a different tier of the encumbrance chart, so with magic armor you move faster if you are lightly loaded or heavily loaded than you do with non-magic armor.
