Re: Outdoor Retreat Probability

Let's say someone, like me, is mathmatically stupid. Seeing percentages and then having to figure out how that works with a d20 or d6 roll just doesn't click. Why not stick with the d20 roll and then change the table to tell me how much to add or subtract from a d20 roll, not percentage. Thanks. It...

Re: Humanoids should be brawling!?

My initial thoughts: I once played with a GM who was pretty vanilla OD&D. He didn't have rules for charging or brawling etc, just straight d6 damage. I still liked the gimmicks and scenarios he arranged regardless. If I really wanted to do something off the wall, then we might have made up a rule on...

Re: Feels Weird...

I've been using some of the rulings in my adventuring supplement, if anyone cares to comment. Otherwise, I should be reviewing more of the other supplements myself.

Re: Holmeslike Fixed Order, but BFRPG style

I don't recommend roll-offs either. Two opponents with the same rolled Initiative are simultaneous, unless they are closing this round and one has a longer weapon. I am fond of the idea. I suspect it adds a little more sting for rushing into melee: you could charge and do in a goblin, but the gobli...

Re: Holmeslike Fixed Order, but BFRPG style

Thanks mTeasdale. I think the latter ruling is actually pretty tried and true. I've read about folks on dragsonsfoot and others on basic fantasy using that one. The sticky thing about my current campaign is the players really get into holding init, so I thought of the former rule (player re-rolls on...

Re: Combat Options Supplement

Few comments about the new options: - The "called shot" guideline could get out of hand if interpreted the wrong way and depending on the group or type of players. As an alternative, one might consider applying a larger penalty (-5 or even -7 or only on a natural 20.) Or, consider the 2e "called sho...

Re: Combat Options Supplement

I'm impressed to see the updates to the combat options supplement, including "official" rulings for mounted combat.

For cross reference, I have also hammered out some alternative (BECMI/Mentzer influenced) "wilderness adventure" rulings on the Showcase under the Adventuring Supplement.

Haha :) True, I don't think BFRPG has a pisonics supplement yet.

Holmeslike Fixed Order, but BFRPG style

Hi all: This last year I've been playing with folks (both online and face-to-face) who have a strong preference for rolling initiative once per encounter. I recently got the idea to try re-rolling init only "when it matters" (below): Has anyone playtested something like the following? Normal BFRPG i...

Re: Jedi Class

For what it's worth, there has been a discussion about psionics in B/X on DF recently with some interesting ideas: http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=68459 I personally like the idea of sticking to vancian spells (telekinesis spell, etc.) but other ideas included using thief like...
