Re: New to Basic Fantasy

Another quick thought is that they don't have to start out at first level. I tend to start players out at third. A popular suggestion to reduce the fragility of characters is to start them with 5000xp and have them at appropriate level. Another suggestion to reduce the lethality is to give max HP a...

Re: Anyone using the mRPG mobile app for play-by-chat?

I've seen pbc games (not specific to BFRPG) all over the place that people can post but discord with the various bots seem to be growing in popularity. Roll20 is slowly growing in popularity also as it has a dedicated interactive map and character sheets. I host a text community on Roll20 and I'm th...

Re: Anyone using the mRPG mobile app for play-by-chat?

I'm taking some down time from being a GM and just playing in a game for now. I originally started with a text chat game being setup on Roll20 but then copied it over to discord so now I have two versions being worked on. One of discord and the other on Roll20. This is why I commented about a campai...

Re: Anyone using the mRPG mobile app for play-by-chat?

I've looked the app over and while it shows promise, it is slightly more work than I'm able to commit to in an effort to build a campaign on. I have one mostly built on my discord server so that is what I will probably be sticking with.

Re: New to Basic Fantasy

I've promoted BFRPG multiple times in various threads on Reddit when people ask about what system would be good to start in. I think I know which thread is mentioned.

Re: Question on monsters damage

The point I was trying to make is that intelligent monsters will more than likely be careful in how they attack and who they attack. Animal or unintelligent monsters will tend to focus all their attacks on their current opponent or the current one in front of them. This is not always the case but th...

Re: New to Basic Fantasy

Another thing to remember is that there is not a rule for everything so as a GM you might be needed to make a ruling (this is different from a rule) or judgement call. Take the all time favorite of someone that is not a thief that wants to sneak up on someone. Well thieves have the move silently ski...

Re: New to Basic Fantasy

First thing is to remember that BFRPG and other OSR systems are more lethal than 5e. Stress to your players that running away from an encounter or avoiding the encounter is a totally valid action to do. If they do choose to go into combat, they need to be sure to weight the odds to their favor such ...

I just woke up shortly before seeing the post and drew a blank on the actual title of the section.
