Re: RPG Primer and Old School Playbook

I've been giving it some thought and I'm really not sure about the statement " The Game Master is always right ". I think it's open to misinterpretation. Taken at face value (which is how a newcomer might take it), it doesn't bear out any of my real-life play experiences, either as a player or as a ...

Re: RPG Primer and Old School Playbook

Just one other point ... Do you think you might be unnecessarily limiting the potential readership by having the Old School focus? "Old School" will have different connotations to different people. For some, it will be a positive, but they are most probably the ones that don't need a primer. For oth...

Re: RPG Primer and Old School Playbook

A comment on dice ... Standard xdy dice notation is used throughout without explicitly explaining it (as is done, for example, in the Core Rules). This might not be so immediately obvious to the newcomer. Also the "funny-looking dice" themselves don't receive any sort of formal introduction. Again, ...

To be honest, I'd prefer all the auto stuff to be taken out. Ordinary boxes that are filled in manually are fine with me, and provide the most flexibility.

Re: Roll20 Update - Character Sheets

So, I introduced the character sheet to my Roll20 game yesterday. Here is some collated feedback ... 1. As mentioned above, boxes for recording XP (current total + target for next level) would be useful. 2. The auto-calculation of the missile attack bonus doesn't include the halfling’s special abili...

Re: Roll20 Update - Character Sheets

Hah! I just logged on to post about the XP, but -1warrior beat me to it. Huge thanks for this Solo. I'm going to start using it with my weekly game. I have a few other more minor comments/suggestions, but I'll collate all the feedback from my group and provide it in a coherent list, rather than post...

Re: Roll20 Update - Character Sheets

Whilst I use Roll20, I'm not so familiar with the community over there. However, if you go to the " Important Info on Character Sheets -- Read Me First! " topic on the forum (https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/882269/important-info-on-character-sheets-read-me-first#post-882269), the Dev Team member w...

Re: Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 3rd Edition

A few very minor things in Release 80: 1. Page 58, in the description of "Bear, Polar" a comparison is made to "brown bears", but there is no brown bear in the monster list. I guess it should read "... slightly taller than grizzly bears ...". 2. I think I've mentioned this before, but page 106, in t...

Fantastic Heroes & Witchery

Interesting that one of the newer kids on the OSR block, Fantastic Heroes & Witchery , references some Basic Fantasy supplements in its OGL and copyright notices, including the Backgrounds and Specialties Supplement and Smoot's Quasi-Classes. BF, along with OSRIC and LL, also gets a special thanks i...

Re: Help resolving combat encounters for newb GM

For a slightly different perspective on combat, perhaps one that is easier to visualise - with a more board-gamey, tactical feel - you could take a look at my "Combat with Floor Plans" supplement - you'll find it in the Showcase under Rules Supplements - http://www.basicfantasy.org/showcase.cgi .
